Easy and delicious brownies
Brownies never fail to amaze me, and they truly showcase the greatness of American dessert.
The beauty of making brownies lies in their simplicity. There are no complicated steps or need for pre-softening butter at room temperature. You just mix the ingredients in order, using melted butter, and a simple swirl with a rubber spatula before popping it into the oven does the trick.
The end result is a moist, gooey delight, combining the goodness of a molten chocolate dessert with the irresistible taste of baked treats. They can be enjoyed as a mid-afternoon snack or served with ice cream and sauce as a delightful post-dinner dessert. The versatility of brownies is truly impressive. You can cut them into your desired size, making them ideal for petit fours or easily adaptable to various occasions and settings.
Each time I bake them, I can't help but marvel at the brilliance of this dessert that fits so effortlessly into countless culinary moments.
Types of Brownies
While some brownie recipes may incorporate baking powder and result in a texture similar to pound cake – not as moist and fudgy – I must admit that the ones with a moist and gooey texture are undeniably more delicious and versatile.
The pound cake-like crumb can make brownies suitable as a snack, but it may be a bit challenging to use them as a dessert. What truly sets brownies apart is that perfect, moist texture. It's their unique quality that makes them so enjoyable and easy to make. Whether you're enjoying them as a quick treat or indulging in a dessert after a meal, the delightful moisture of brownies is unmatched. That's what makes them so special and loved!
Tips on how to make brownies
Here are some points to achieve the moist texture in brownies:
Follow the measurements precisely:
American desserts are often perceived as having a high sugar content, but sugar plays a crucial role in adding moisture to baked goods' texture. Thus, when we sense that a recipe might be too sweet and decide to reduce the sugar amount, we run the risk of losing the desired moist texture in the final product.
Although there are recipes that are overly sweet with unnecessary sugar, it's advisable to first try a recipe you trust without reducing the sugar amount. Once you experience the desired texture with the correct sugar measurement, you can gradually experiment by reducing the sugar to achieve similar results.
In the case of these brownies, I initially thought the sugar and butter amounts were high compared to the chocolate quantity. So, I tried increasing the chocolate, but the texture changed and didn't taste as good. Eventually, I added cocoa powder, maintaining the original texture while enhancing the chocolate flavor, resulting in a balanced and delicious recipe.
・Avoid incorporating air into the batter:
The recipe is simple since you just need to add the ingredients one by one and mix them together. However, be cautious not to overmix the batter and introduce excess air, as it can change the texture.
Make sure to combine the ingredients thoroughly while preventing unnecessary air from being trapped in the batter. To achieve this, it's recommended to use a rubber spatula or wooden spoon instead of a whisk throughout the entire process.
・Don't overbake:
With this recipe, you can pour the batter into a square pan of about 20cm and bake it in a preheated oven at 170°C(338°F) for approximately 20 minutes. (If you are using an electric oven, increase the temperature by about +5 to 10°C / +9 to 18°F and add approximately +5 minutes to the baking time.)
You can gauge its doneness by observing slight elevation around the edges and a crispy, reddish-brown surface. Trust these visual cues to ensure a perfect bake.
